Brightcliff

Brightcliff, named for the brilliantly reflective marble cliffside it was built upon, is a large trade town along the south-eastern coast of [[Nythea]] in **REGION**. During the [[Boneburn Crusade]], Brightcliff suffered heavy damages at the hands of orcish raiding parties from [[Ur'Kadesh]]. Since then, it has been defended and refortified by soldiers sent from [[The Concord of Aion]], who occupy [[Embermantle Keep]].

The Celestine

Overview

The Celestine is an organization of scholars, astrologers, and philosophers that acts as Nythea's governing body. Each member is allowed to participate in public debates to discuss national policy, local disputes, or if potentially dangerous information poses a threat to the nation or world as a whole.

The group seeks to pursue truth and freedom through observation, discourse, and reason.

Structure

The Celestine operates as a decentralized network of scholarly chapters, each based in an observatory, archive, or debate hall. There is no central authority or permanent leadership. All members are considered equal, with influence determined by the strength of their arguments rather than rank.

paDebates are moderated by Arbiters, who are selected by lot and serve for limited terms. This system is intended to prevent the consolidation of power and maintain impartial oversight of discourse.

A small number of Archivists travel between chapters, rotating records and philosophical works. This ensures the continuous exchange of ideas and prevents intellectual isolation between regions.

Methods & Tactics

Decisions within each chapter are made through open debate followed by majority vote. Outcomes are considered binding, but not permanent, and may be revisited as new arguments or information emerge.

The Celestine maintains a strict stance of neutrality in political matters and warfare. Members are expected to prioritize inquiry and understanding over allegiance.

Resources

Each chapter maintains extensive archives of celestial observations, historical records, and philosophical writings. These collections are carefully preserved and regularly updated.

Many members of the Celestine come from noble backgrounds and contribute personal wealth to support the organization’s operations, including the maintenance of facilities and the work of traveling Archivists.

Enemies & Rivals

The Celestine does not formally recognize political or military enemies. Instead, it defines its opposition in ideological terms, primarily ignorance, misinformation, and entrenched bigotry.
